Yoshida

I took my parents to lunch at Yoshida again, 10700 DeAnza Blvd. in Cupertino. It's their favorite place to go. Why wouldn't you like it when you get so much good food for $7.95. I think it's my new favorite Japanese place.

Salmon Teriyaki--the fish was moist and the teriyaki glaze was delicious.

Chicken Udon--chewy noodles and nice vegetables. I ask for mine without green onions.

California Rolls.

Chawan Mushi--Egg Custard. This was smooth and delicious.

Salad with Miso Dressing--Loved it!

Ca Mau

Many years ago, I loved Ca Mau in downtown San Jose. They had the best bun bo hue. They closed shop when they lost their restaurant because of some ordinance that forced them out.

I recently discovered Ca Mau on Yelp and wondered if it was the same owner.  The restaurant is now located on South White and Quimby in San Jose.

The broth tastes similar but it didn't have the depth of flavor the old broth had. Plus, they were missing a lot of the green leaves that makes bun bo hue so good.

Small Bun Bo Hue--$6.50. Add mint, lettuce, bean sprouts and banana blossoms.

I loved the noodles--chewy and yummy!

Soda Chanh--lemonade with club soda for $2.50. This is my favorite Vietnamese drink.

Downtown Healdsburg Winery Touring

We decided to park the car and walk to the rest of the wineries in downtown Healdsburg.

We started with Hawley, but they had run out of their Crab Arancini.

Next stop was the Kendall Jackson tasting room. They wouldn't serve their Red Wine-Braised Short Ribs with Truffled Celery Root Puree without first going to their bar and tasting all their wines. After a long day of wine tasting, I couldn't try all their wines again so I opted to skip the dish.

Murphy Goode was serving Posole and this was delicious!

Posole paired with their Snake Eyes Zinfandel.

La Crema was the next winery we visited.

Chanterelle Soup with Turkey & Cranberry Garnish served with La Crema Los Carneros Pinot Noir. This was delicious.

We walked across Healdsburg Avenue along the square and found Thumbprint Cellars.

They were serving Kissable Baked Polenta with Pinot Noir-Braised Wild Mushrooms served with Thumbprint Cellars Nugent Vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.

Further down Matheson was Williamson Wines. They were serving their food on real chinaware--the first we had seen this weekend.

Grilled Skirt Steak with Chimichurri Sauce served with Williamson Tango Malbec.

Our final stop was Selby Winery. They were serving Lobster Creole but had run out by the time we arrived at 3:30 pm.

It was a great 2 days. We visited wineries we would otherwise have not visited and had some great wine and amazing food. Can't wait for next year!

Kelley and Young & Hudson Street Wineries

Just next door were 2 more wineries.

Kelley and Young shared space with the Hudson Street Wineries:

Kathleen's Sweet & Spicy Grilled Prawns paired with Kelley and Young Kathleen Rose. The prawns were delicious and had a nice spicy kick. The coleslaw was even better but unfortunately there was no recipe for it.

Hudson Street Wineries was serving Lip Smackin' Baby Back Ribs but they ran out by the time we got there. Instead, we had a spicy sausage that paired well with the Bluenose Syrah.

Holdredge, Sapphire Hill, Hart's Desire & J. Keverson

Across the street from Davies Family Winery is a cluster of wineries. We walked across the street to sample them.

We started at Holdredge Wines. They make only Pinots and produce a total of 2000 cases per year.

Spring Hill Mac and Cheese with Bacon--this was creamy but the bacon was very subtle--too subtle for a bacon lover, such as myself. This was paired with Holdredge Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.

Nearby is Sapphire Hill. They had perhaps the best dish of the day.

Steak Sapphire with Sauteed Spinach, Crab and Bernaise Sauce. Yummy! Paired with Zafira Zinfandel.

Hart's Desire shared space with J. Keverson.

PAG (Pumpkin, Apple and Ginger) Soup paired with Alexander Valley Viognier. This could have used some salt at the very least.

J Keverson Winery:

Pork & Apple Chili paired with J. Keverson Starkey's Court Russian River Valley Zinfandel.

Davies Family Winery

Our next stop was Healdsburg. We thought we would start at one end of the town and work our way to the other end. We would be able to hit a large number of wineries.

Our first stop was Davies Family Winery, located on the Russian River. In the summer, Zazu has an outpost on the premise. They have a nice Chardonnay as well but my favorite is their Pinot.

Harvest Ribollita--thick, flavorful and delicious! Paired with Davis Family Vineyards Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.
