Mikros Apoplous

Before we boarded our ferry to Sifnos, we had lunch back in Adamas. We chose Midros Apoplous at the southern end of the town.

Delicious sun-dried tomato dip.

Smoked Trout with Yogurt Sauce--€7.90. This was one of their signature appetizer--a family recipe.

Greek Salad with Local Cheese--€6

Grilled Sardine--€7. I was amazed how the sardines varied in size at different restaurants. These were more like anchovies. The fish still had bones in them but they were delicious. I pulled the head off and ate the meat away from the bone.

Steamed Mussels--€8.20

Complimentary desserts--chocolate pudding and Greek yogurt with dried orange rinds.

Lime granita.

The Beaches of Milos

Milos has beautiful beaches.

In the south, Provatas is a wide beach in a nice little cove. You can rent beach chairs and umbrellas

or just lay your beach towel on the sand.

Tsigrado Beach is a secluded beach.

You'll need to climb down a ladder to get to the beach.

Nice wide beach

and a cave with beautiful blue water.

Paleohori is in the southeastern end of the island. It has more amenities, including a few tavernas.

The beach is wide and beautiful.

On the northern end of the island is Sarakiniko. It's a very windy part of the island but the scenery is spectacular.

The cliffs are white and have been pounded by the surf.

There is a protected area but unfortunately, the beach is not very wide.

On the northwestern end of the island is Plathiena.

Plathiena is another beautiful wide beach.

Greek Bakeries

The following morning, we went to the local bakery near our hotel in search of breakfast.

Okay, so baklava isn't usually considered breakfast but we couldn't resist getting one for later.

The spanakopita or spinach pie was delicious for breakfast.

Pretzel ring with sesame. I liked this as well. This had the same density as a bagel.

Plaka, Milos

Plaka, the capital of Milos, is just 5 km from Adamas. It sits on a hill and has beautiful views of the sea.

It's a typical Cycladic town with whitewashed buildings.

The town is full of pedestrian-only walkways lined with restaurants, galleries and shops.

Courtyard with mosaic rocks.

Plaka is much more charming than Adamas and you could easily spend a few hours wandering around.

Kimolos

From Pollonia, in June, boats leave for Kimolos 4 times a day (07:15, 10:00, 14:30 & 18:30) on the weekdays and just twice a day (10:00 & 18:30) on the weekends. The boats leave Kimolos 30 minutes before the scheduled departure from Pollonia.

The ferry boat carries passengers (€2), motor bikes (€2.50) and cars (€10)--cost is each way. The boat docks in Psathi in Kimolos.

We left our car in Pollonia and rented a motor bike on Kimolos for €10/day. This was just a short walk from the ferry dock. The island is not large but too large to walk and public transportation is limited.

Beaches at Mavrospillia Bay, Ellinika and Dekas at the western end of the island were rocky, dirty and windy.

Prassa Bay on the north end of the island had a nice beach with some shade. This was where everyone who came from Pollonia went.

The main town of Hora was pretty deserted in early June. The main church in town was closed.

The restaurants in town were closed.

Only a few locals walking in the town.

We found the only shop that was open. It was an ice cream place and we got a cone of banana and one of mastica. The mastica was delicious and chewy. We sat with the owner and chatted.

I wouldn't recommend going to Kimolos in the shoulder and off season. The beaches are not that great to justify the trip and the town, while adorable, didn't have enough open to make it interesting.

Pollonia

At the northeastern end of Milos is Pollonia. It's a charming fishing village with a few resorts.

Numerous restaurants line the waterfront. We chose Enalion.

Their house wine--€6 for 1/2 liter. It was poured from the bottle into a pitcher.

Garden's Tomatoes with Xinomyzithra Cheese of Milos, Capers & Basil----€5.

Eggplant Fried in Olive Oil with Feta Cheese and Sauce of Fresh Tomatoes----€4.20.

Cuttlefish with Orzo Broth Cooked in its Ink----€9.50. It was very fishy but I still crave this dish.

Sardines Grilled with Olive Oil and Lemon Sauce----€6.70.

O Hamos

Just south of Adamas was O Hamos. This was ranked as the #2 restaurant on TripAdvisor.

Delicious homemade bread.

Complimentary soft cheese--tasted like Boursin.

O Hamos Greek salad--€6

Piglet baked in paper with molasses & mustard--€9.60. I was afraid this would be sweet but it was not. It was delicious and the meat was very tender.

Wild goat cooked in embers for hours with a sauce of lemon, mustard and marjoram--$9.20. This had a really gamey taste--a little too gamey for me.

Complimentary dessert of mastica in water. The mastica was chewy, sweet and had a licorice taste.
