Westward

Just a 10 minute walk north of Gas Works Park, you'll find Westward. It's located at 2501 N. Northlake Way.

The restaurant is located on Lake Union and there are outdoor seats.

Happy Hour is 5-6pm weekdays and 3-5pm weekends. Local oysters are $2. On the day of our visit, the oysters were Sea Cow, Church Point, Squalli, Olympic Wild and Hama Hama. My favorites were the Olympic Wild--plump and briny.

Fremont Neighborhood

After lunch at the Seattle Fish Guys, we took Bus #4 then transferred to the #28 Express to get to the Fremont neighborhood. Google Maps can give you the details and times. Pay $2.75 per person in cash and get a transfer good for 2 hours.

The Fremont Troll was sculpted by 4 artists in 1990 and sits under the Aurora Bridge. It's clutching a VW Beetle with a California license plate. It's one good eye is a hubcap.

Not too far away is a statue of Lenin, with a blood-stained hand. The bronze statue was completed and displayed in Czechoslovakia in 1988. In 1993, the statue was bought by an American who found it in a scrapyard. He brought it to Seattle but died before he could carry out his plans. The statue is for sale--asking price $250,000.

A block away, you'll find a Cold War-era rocket.

Across the street, you'll find a sculpture of Saturn.

We happened to be in the neighborhood on Sunday and found the Fremont Sunday Market. There were the usual antiques and craft stands but there were also food trucks.

On 34th Street, just beyond the Fremont Bridge, you'll find "Waiting for the Interurban," a sculpture by Richard Beyer. The cast aluminum statue can be decorated by anyone. The requirement is to take it down after a week.

Continuing down 34th Street, you'll find "Late for the Interurban." It depicts 2 clowns. The sculpture was installed in 2008 with their ICU2TV and a donation tin for the Children's Hospital.

If you get tired of walking, you'll find bikes all over Seattle. Download the respective App and take the bike for a ride.

Gas Works Park is a 19-acre park located on the north shore of lake Union. It sits on the site of the former Seattle Gas Light Company gasification plant, which ceased to operate in 1956. The park opened to the public in 1975.

There's a nice view of downtown Seattle from the park.

In the park, we also came upon larping--Live Action Role Playing of Medieval times.

Seattle Fish Guys

I watched a lot of YouTube videos to figure out where to eat in Seattle. The Seattle Fish Guys was recommended by Mark Wiens, star of the Migrationology channel on YouTube.

The Seattle Fish Guys is located at 411 23rd Avenue South.

Miso Black Cod with rice & salad. The fish is sold by weight and this platter was $15.50.

Poke Plate with 2 choices, 2 scoops of rice and seaweed salad--$13.99. This was a huge portion. Both the classic ahi poke and spicy poke were delicious.

The Brooklyn Happy Hour

We met friends at The Brooklyn for Happy Hour.

The Brooklyn is located at 1212 2nd Avenue. Their Happy Hour is daily from 4-6pm.

There's a featured oyster for $2 each. These were Hood Gold Oysters and they were served with a green apple/tarragon granita, mignonette and horseradish cocktail sauce.

We also ordered Miyagi's for $3 each. I thought the Hood Gold oysters were better. Plumper and brinier.

Balsamic Glazed Steak Bites with Gorgonzola--$9. These were tender and tasty.

Artisanal Bread with 3 Olive Tapenade--$4.50. The tapenade was delicious.

Amazon Go

Seattle is the home of Amazon.

At it's headquarter's campus, there are 3 glass globes. These spheres serve as an employee lounge and workspace and are not open to the public. It's located on Lenora  Street between 6th and 7th Avenue.

Nearby is an Amazon Go store. It's a convenience store without checkout lines. Download the app, enter the store and take what you want. The bill will be charged to your payment method.

Olympic Sculpture Park

From the Seattle Center, we walked to the Olympic Sculpture Park. It's located at 2901 Western Avenue. It's free to visit and is open from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. They offer free 60-minute tours but I couldn't find when the tours are offered.

There's a nice view of the Olympic Peninsula across Elliott Bay.

Alexander Calder's "Eagle."

"Love & Loss" by Roy McMakin.

"Echo" by Jaume Plensa.

"Father & Son" by Louise Bourgeois. The water level alternates revealing the father or the son.

Monorail and the Seattle Center

There were free rides on the Monorail after the parade. You could take it from the Westlake Center (where the parade ended) down to the Seattle Center (where there were more festivities).

The Seattle Monorail ride is $2.50 and takes 2 minutes to cover the 1 mile route. Trains depart every 10 minutes. It was built for the World's Fair in 1962.

At the Seattle Center, you'll find the Museum of Pop Culture. Admission is $28.

You'll also find the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum. Admission is $26.

The Space Needle admission is $35 ($5 discount if you go from 10am-noon).

As you can see, admission is steep. If you buy a Seattle City Pass for $99 (expires 9 days after you start using it), you get:
1) Space Needle
2) Seattle Aquarium
3) Argosy Cruise Harbor Tour
4) Museum of Pop Culture or Woodland Park Zoo
5) Chihuly Garden & Glass or Pacific Science Center
