On the way back to the hotel, we had dessert at Rocca Serra.

We tried myrtle (myrtle) for €4.50. The gelato was okay--nothing too spectacular.

Les 4 Vents

Dinner in Bonifacio was at Les 4 Vents, located on the promenade at 29 Quai Banda del Ferro. It was a 5-minute walk from the Hotel du Roy d'Aragon.

Olive Tapenade was brought to the table when we sat down.

Octopus Salad--€12. This was a huge portion and quite good. Nice vinegary taste without being overpowering.

Grilled Prawns--€29. Very large prawns but a little expensive at €15 per prawn.

Boullabaise--€29. There were monkfish, John Dory, mussels and potatoes in a rich broth.

Bonifacio

Bonifacio is a port town on the southern side of the island. It is just 12 km from Sardinia.

The port side promenade has restaurants and shops and is active at night.

The marina is lined with luxury yachts.

The Bonifacio citadel stands guard over the town.

The Lighthouse of Madonetta stands guard at the entry to the harbor.

The surrounding white limestone cliffs are beautiful.

Take the steep "Escalier du Gouvernail" and venture under the cliffs. Entrance fee is €2.50.

It ends at an opening facing the sea--known as the "rudder" of Corsica. This is the southernmost point   of Corsica.

Viewing the "rudder" from the outside.

The marine cemetery in Bonifacio is the southernmost cemetery in Europe.

Eglise Saint-Dominique is the largest church in Corsica.

L'Eglise Saint-Marie-Majeure is the oldest church in Bonifacio.

Chappelle de Saint-Roch faces the cliffs of Bonifacio and was built in 1528 at the site where the last plague victim died. It's dedicated to Saint-Roch, the patron saint of the plague.

Hotel du Roy d'Aragon

From Sartene, it's an hour drive to the coastal town of Bonifacio. We stayed at the Hotel du Roy d'Aragon along the waterfront. It's a Best Western property.
.

There is no parking onsite. You park at a nearby lot after picking up a pass from the hotel.

Sartene

Sartene is an ancient hill town located just 40 minutes from Filitosa. It was known for banditry and piracy in the 19th century. Today, it's known for its wine.

It's an adorable town with narrow passageways.

The buildings are made of granite.

You can find quaint squares.

Eglise Santa Maria Assunta is in the center of town.

The church is known for its annual Procession du Catenacciu, a re-enactment of the Passion held every Good Friday since the Middle Ages. This 35 kg wooden cross is carried through the streets by the penitents.

Place de la Liberation abuts the church and marks the center of town.
