The grounds of the park is free to visit. There is a $3 charge to visit the Courthouse, now housing a museum. It's an interesting look at California's gold rush days and worth the price of admission. You could spend an hour in the museum. Be sure to see the jail downstairs and the gallows outside.
The town was destroyed by fire twice and finally rebuilt in brick. Shasta had the longest row of brick buildings north of San Francisco at that time. The buildings still exist although they are just shells of their former self.
There is a blacksmith shop with demonstrations. This happens year round.
The Litsch General Merchandise Store, where visitors can see what it was like to shop during the 1880s, is open in the summer and fall.
Some of the items on display in the store.
