Dole

Dole was a very quiet town--population 25,000 and not a whole lot of tourists in late September.

It's situated on the Doubs and is adorable. We parked in a lot across from the river and walked into town. See the green & white boats on the river? Dole is a home base for Nicols, a barge rental company. The large tower is part of the Collegiate Church.

I thought this was a cute barge, complete with room for a car.

We picked up a map from the TI, which is located at Place Jules Grevy. The map outlined the Circuit du Chat Perche (Trail of the Perched Cat), which took us on a 4-km, 2 1/2 hour walk around the town.

Place Jules Grevy is marker #8 on the map.

Across the street is #7--Cours Saint-Mauris, a public park built in the 18th century.

The park is dominated by a statue of Louis Pasteur, a French chemist and microbiologist who discovered a vaccine for Anthrax and rabies.

Louis Pasteur's birthplace (#5) is now a museum. Admission is €5 and the museum is closed on Mondays.

Walking around town.

Bereur Mansion (#10) was built for a member of the parliament in the 17th century. It now houses Jura's sub-prefecture.

Cute and disgusting at the same time. This was a board where you put your gum.
