As you can probably guess, one of my favorite shows is "The Amazing Race." They held an open audition in San Francisco yesterday at the Marmot store near Union Square. Auditions started at 9 am and ended at 2 pm.
We got there at 7:30 am and the line was already down the block, around the corner and 3/4 of the way down the 3rd block. I counted approximately 160 teams in line already and wasn't sure if we would make it in. I had read some blogs about the audition and learned that 3 cameras were set up. I figured if they did an audition every 5 minutes, that would allow 36 auditions per hour. In five hours, they would be able to process 180 teams.
At 8:30 am, they started handing out numbered tickets. We were Team #157. Not too bad, since I thought we would be team #160. We were told we could leave and come back before the auditions started. They would be processing 60 teams per hour.
We returned at 11 am and found our place in line again. We waited another 30 minutes outside then were allowed inside the store. We signed a Video Release and Waiver and waited another 15 minutes before being escorted downstairs to the taping room.
We were given instructions to look at the camera and talk about ourselves. We were asked why we would make a great team then given 15 seconds to sell ourselves. The whole thing lasted 2-3 minutes.
We were excited we had tried out. Now, we'll see if we hear from them again.
