After settling in the hotel, it was time to look for dinner. It was already 7:30 pm. I had found a few places on TripAdvisor but unfortunately, they were already booked for the night.
We happened upon Le Krutenau, located in La Petite Venise, near the river. Address is 1 Rue de la Poisson. We chose to sit inside to avoid the smokers. You can still smoke at outside tables in France but fortunately, the interior of the restaurant is now smoke-free.
I'm so glad France is slowly going to no-smoking. I'll never forget an earlier trip to France where we were asked if we wanted a non-smoking table. When I replied "yes," we were led to a table for 8, already filled with a few non-smoking Americans. The table was in the middle of the room and we were surrounded by smokers. It was a start then but it's much better now that the entire inside is non-smoking. Now, if they would change their laws to include non-smoking outside as well...
Le Krutenau was a wine pub and they only served tarte flambĂ©e. In fact, there were only 2 choices--Nature--€7.30 or
Gratinee--€8.60. It was a Nature with fromage rape (grated cheese). Tarte flambee is an Alsatian/Southern German dish made of dough that is very thin and topped with a fromage blanc or creme fraiche, thinly sliced onions and lardons. Each tarte will serve only 1 person. I liked the gratin better but both were delicious.
There were many wine & cider choices by the glass, €2-4 each.

I was excited to see Apfelstrudel on the menu. We were in Alsace and I figured it would probably be very good. It was €6.90 and it was just slightly better than an Entenmann's. What a disappointment!
