Saumur & Wine Tasting

Saumur is located in the Loire, just 30 minutes from Chinon. We met an ex-pat living in France who thought Saumur was the best place to get a place if you plan to live in France. His rationale was that it was a quick trip from CDG on the TGV, cost of living was affordable and there was plenty to do. In addition, there were many wineries nearby.

I looked into it. Saumur is 3 1/2 hours from CDG by TGV but you do have to transfer in St. Pierre des Corps.

Saumur sits on the Loire River.

Pont Cessart was built in the 1700s and spans the Loire.

The Chateau de Saumur is listed as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture. 

Many of the wineries nearby don't require a reservation to visit.

Many Loire wines are inexpensive. A nice bottle of white wine at Domaine de la Villa Rosa was €6 per bottle.
