I've always loved Rosso Pizzeria, located at 53 Montgomery. They were listed as having a $19 dinner on the Sonoma County Restaurant Week website but they didn't have the menu posted. When we arrived, the 3-course dinner was $29.
Burrata & Prosciutto for the first course. This was laughable. 1/3 slice of prosciutto and a small sliver of burrata and the prosciutto was a lousy quality.
You had a choice of Capo Salad--Rafter Ranch arugula, oven roasted artichoke, shaved parmigiano reggiano and whole lemon vinaigrette. This was a good salad but the portion was equivalent to a small, which on their regular menu is $9.
The other salad option was the Caesar--chopped romaine with creamy lemon anchovy dressing, gorgonzola dolce and calabrian chiles. Again, it was a small portion and $9 on the regular menu.
For the main, you had a choice of any pizza on the menu. I chose a white pizza with Manila Clams, Hobbs' Bacon Lardons, Fontina, Thyme and Lemon Zest. I left the scallions off. The pizza was good and is $18.50 on the regular menu.
The other option for the main was Polenta & Meatball. There was only 1 meatball and it was not that big. This was very disappointing.
Of all the Restaurant Week menus I have enjoyed in the past, Rosso's was the biggest disappointment. Dinner was definitely not worth $29. We would have done better ordering off the menu.
Their lunch menu for Restaurant Week is a much better deal. You get 2 courses for $15. The menu is the same except you don't get the prosciutto & burrata. That makes the prosciutto and burrata $14. Was that first dish worth $14?
