Puente La Reina

One of the popular stops on the Camino de Santiago is Puente La Reina. It translates to Bridge of the Queen--built by Queen Dona Mayor over the River Arga.

Enter the town by crossing the bridge.

One of the homes welcoming pilgrims--see the pilgrim and scallop emblem over the door. The scallop is a symbol of the Camino de Santiago and there are many theories why it is used. Scallop shells are found in Galicia, the pilgrim's final destination and pilgrims collect the shells to prove that they made it. The grooves of the shell come together in a single point and is a metaphor for the various routes the pilgrim's take ending in a single final destination at the Cathedral. The shells are also used by the pilgrims to scoop water.

Refugio in town that houses pilgrims.

Statue paying homage to the pilgrims. It is located just at the entrance to the town from the north side.
