5200 Restaurant

5200 Restaurant is located in the Heritage House Resort in Little River, just south of Mendocino. The resort is the setting for "Same Time, Next Year" starring Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn, released in 1978.

The exterior of the reception building still looks the same but the rest of the resort has been recently renovated.

Beautiful flowers on the table. The restaurant space is expansive with windows looking out to the ocean but there are just a few tables. The view isn't as nice as at Ledford House or Albion River Inn but they do have a pianist, just as at Albion River Inn. Ledford House has live music as well. 5200 Restaurant often has Groupon deals and they offer 20% off for locals.

There is a Happy Hour in the lounge but it is only Mon-Fri.

Ceviche--$14. Rock cod, shrimp "cooked in citrus juices" with cucumbers, onions, tomato, cilantro, pumpkin seeds, served with wonton chips. The portion looked small but it's actually enough for 2 to share. The wonton chips could have been smaller to make it easier to eat. Overall, a nice dish and one I would order again.

Our waiter brought the wrong octopus dish but left it for us to try. This is Shrimp & Octopus Cocktail, Baja Style--$16. This had fresh horseradish, avocado, tomatoes, onion, celery with a tomato base. I wasn't too impressed with how it looked but it was actually pretty tasty. At first, I was put off by the size of the cocktail shrimp but I think any larger would have detracted from the octopus.

Octopus Salad--$18. Frisee, pea shoots, small potatoes, green olives, English peas, dijon vinaigrette. I was looking forward to this dish but the octopus was grilled and overcooked. The olives were jumbo but still had pits in them. Overall it was disappointing.

The fish of the day was Sturgeon--$29. It was pan roasted and served with power blended brussel sprouts, carrots and turnips and finished with a lemon butter sauce. The sturgeon was quite good, It was meaty but still very soft.

I chose Petrale Sole--$26. Pan roasted, pomme puree, rainbow chard, toasted almond with orange beurre blanc. The fish was thin and overcooked but the pomme was incredibly creamy and I liked the chard.
