Frenchy's at CDG

We had a 6-hour layover at CDG and had lunch at Frenchy's in Terminal 2. We departed from Terminal 1 but there were few restaurant options there.

It's a sit-down restaurant but they do serve pretty quickly.

The Plat du Jour was a chicken curry with rice--€17.

Radisson Blu TLS

Because we had an early flight, we stayed near the airport.

The Radisson Blu provided free airport transfers so we were able to drop off our car the day before our flight and didn't have to deal with it on the day of our flight.

The rooms were quite large and well insulated so you didn't hear the planes.

Bathrooms were also large by French standards.

Le Point d'Ogre

Dinner was at Le Point d'Ogre, located at Rue de Paradoux, just 1 minute from our last Happy Hour stop.

A basket of sausages & vegetables is brought to the table. The sausages were quite good and included  a blood sausage.

Soup is also included with your meal.

Fevoulet was one of the options for the main course--€28. The fevoulet was quite good and was like a cassoulet.

Another option for the main course was Duck Breast--€27. It was also quite good.

I added a supplement of Cheesy Polenta--€4.

Toulouse

Our final stop on this trip was Toulouse, known as La Ville Rose (the pink city).

From the airport, you can take the metro into town for €1.60. It's good for 1 1/2 hours of travel, if you need to make a transfer. The ride into town takes about 25-30 minutes. The first train leaves the airport at 5:57 am and the last train is at roughly midnight. To get to the airport, the first train leaves Palais du Justice at 5:50 am.

Place du Capitole is Toulouse's main square.

The Capitole or City Hall on the eastern side of the square was built in the 1750s.

Notre Dame du Taur--Toulouse's Catholic Church.

We stopped for an empanada at El Almacen, located at 16 Rue du Taur (next to the Catholic Church). It's not very French but I never pass up getting an empanada.

I had the beef empanada for €2.80. It was as good as the ones you get in Argentina except that the inside was still cold.

Basilique Saint Sernin. The cathedral was built on the spot where Saint Sernin, patron saint of Toulouse, became detached from the bull that dragged the martyr to his death. It's a stopping spot for pilgrims on the Chemin de Santiago.

From Saint Sernin, head southwest to the Garonne River. It's a popular spot to hang out on the weekends. If you can find a table, you can order some wine and snacks. If not, you cannot purchase wine, even if you can find a grassy area to sit.

Across the river, you'll find the University Hospital (with the domed roof).

It was time for Happy Hour and we stopped at Mucho! near the Pont Neuf. Happy Hour is from 5:30-7:00. Sangria was €3 and it was good!

The restaurant we had chosen for dinner wasn't open yet so we had another drink at La Cave d'A Cote on 5 Rue Henri de Gorsse. This time, I had a glass of Cidre for €3.

Albi

From Cordes-sur-Ciel, it was 25 km and 27 min to Albi.

Saint  Cecilia Cathedral is the largest brick cathedral in the world. You can see it from a distance before you arrive in Albi.

There was a celebration with dignitaries and military personnel at the Monument aux Morts when we arrived.

The Grand Theatre des Cordeliers is covered in gilded copper mesh.

The Saint Cecilia Cathedral is a fortified castle from the outside and a rich palace inside with decorations dating back to the 15th century.

The entry is impressive.

It's free to walk inside the cathedral but it'll cost €2 to see the Grand Choir and Treasury.

Albi also has a Toulouse-Lautrec museum. The artist was born in Albi in 1864. Entrance to the museum costs €9. Off-season, the museum is closed from noon-2 pm, so plan accordingly.

We had lunch on the streets. Ham & cheese crepe (€4) and nutella crepe (€2).

Cordes-sur-Ciel

Chambres d'Hotes Le Cayrols is located 5 km and 10 min drive from Cordes-sur-Ciel.

As you approach the town, you can see why it's sur ciel (in the sky).

Saturday is Market Day. You can park on the street--costs about €3.50 for the day. Leave your car in the lower town and walk to the upper town.

Or take the Tourist Train.

The town has narrow streets and it's steep.

Porte de l"Horloge (Gate of the Clock)

Looking back down the hill.

The upper town is adorable. Cobblestone streets, arched gates and a lot of shops.

Place de la Bride

Beautiful view of the valley from Place de la Bride

Halle Croix--marketplace.

Chambres d'Hotes & Restaurant le Cayrols

From Sarlat, it's a 2 1/2 hour drive to our stop for the night--Chambres d'Hotes le Cayrols.

Chambres d'Hotes le Cayrols is a bed & breakfast with eclectic art on its grounds, including a Japanese bridge,

a giant metal shopping bag, among other art.

Entrance to the bed & breakfast. Parking is nearby.

Beautiful pool on the grounds.

We stayed in a mini apartment,

complete with kitchen.

We were there just before the start of high season and had the B&B to ourselves.

There is a restaurant attached to the hotel. It's popular with locals although the night we were there, there was only 1 other party.

Our table on the terrace.

Amuse bouche of Olive Tapenade.

We had a bottle of red wine for €19. We also had a glass of peche (peach) kir each for €4.

Cream of Asparagus Soup.

The 3-course menu is €35. One option for the first course was 63 degree Eggs with Cream of Cheese Sauce. The egg was cooked a tad too long but still quite good.

The 2nd option was Foie Gras with Raspberry Puree.

We both chose the Duck Breast with Mashed Potatoes (with Olive Oil), Carrot Mousse and Seasonal Vegetables. This was delicious!

Cheese course was one of the options for dessert.

Another dessert option was Deconstructed Lemon Tart.

Breakfast the next morning was included in the room rate. There were sweet bread options, cheese,  prosciutto, fruit and yogurt, in addition to orange juice and tea or coffee.
