Ajaccio

Ajaccio is the capital of Corsica. It's located on the western side of the island.

Napoleon Bonaparte was born in this house in Ajaccio in 1769.

Nearby is Maison Bonaparte, his childhood home. Today, it's a museum with memorabilia and family heirlooms.

If you don't want to walk, you can take the tourist train.

The port is home to ferries servicing Marseilles, Toulon and Nice, in addition to Livorno and Sadinia.  It is also a popular cruise stop.

An homage to WWII sits on the waterfront.

If it's open, stop by U Stazzu, located at 1 Rue Bonaparte, to pick up Corsican goodies. It's famous for its handmade charcuterie. In the summer, there's often a line just to get in the door.
