St. Jean de Luz

Back to our Basque adventure...

From Ascain, we hit the coast and St. Jean de Luz. I love St. Jean de Luz. It's an adorable town with wonderful water views. This town was popular with Louis XIV, the Sun King of France.

This was a fishing port before it became a tourist draw.

Wonderful beach near the center of town.

Courtyard of the home where Louis XIV stayed while he prepared for his wedding. It's across the street from Maison Adam (see next post).
In 1660, Louis XIV married Maria Teresa, daughter of Phillip IV of Spain in the Eglise St.-Jean-Baptiste.

After the ceremony, the doors were sealed forever.
