Daikokuya Minshuku, Hosokute

Hosokute was the 48th of the 69 post towns on the Nakasendo. It was established in 1610, between the towns of Mitake and Okute.

Daikokuya Minshuku.  Again, you have to reserve in advance. Fax them at 81 572 69 2518. Y 9612 per person for room & 2 meals.

Our snack on arrival--green tea & sweet cake.

After our snack, we had our usual ritual of a hot bath then dinner. Even though we had walked only 4 hours today, it was great to get a hot shower and sit in a hot tub.

Dinner--I wasn't sure what we had. I think it was some kind of potato on the left, tofu in the middle and a mountain vegetable on the right. There was green vegetable wrapped with prosciutto, egg custard, marinated baby fish and more mountain vegetables.

Grilled mountain trout.

Teriyaki salmon.

Tempura mountain vegetables.

Cold noodles.

Homemade ice cream.

Chocolates for "foreigners." Our host explained that foreigners like to have chocolates so he saves these for us.

The next morning, breakfast was served at 7 am.

Again, I have no idea what we had but they were delicious.

Soft boiled egg in soy sauce and more pickled vegetables.

Miso soup--typical for a Japanese breakfast.
