Oren's Hummus Shop

Oren's Hummus Shop has several locations. We went to the one in Mountain View, located at 126 Castro Street.

When we sat down, cabbage marinated in apple cider vinegar was brought to the table. This was very good.

Sampler Dish--$10.95. It was a tiny serving of the appetizers that had a star, namely Babaganoush Eggplant, Oren's Eggplant and Greek-Style Eggplant. I liked the Babaganoush, didn't care for the Oren's and loved the Greek-Style. I liked the Babganoush for its smokiness and the Greek for its tanginess. The Oren's was fried eggplant with caramelized onions and a hard-boiled egg and it was very thick but lacked the flavor of the other two. The Babaganoush was fire roasted with tahini, garlic and herbs while the Greek-Style had tomato, dill, parsley, garlic and lemon.

Also on the Sampler Dish were Moroccan Carrots, Labane and Marinated Beets. I'm not a carrot fan. They were steamed and flavored with olive oil, garlic and mild red spice. The Labane was strained yogurt cheese topped with za'atar spice and olive oil. My companions liked both of these. The beets were marinated in apple cider cilantro vinaigrette and were tasty but not much of the cilantro came through.

We also ordered a side of Falafels, which were delicious. Crispy outside and flavorful inside. Traditional Taboule was disappointing. It didn't have enough parsley or lemon flavoring. The Hummus was too thick for me but enjoyed by everyone else. It was very creamy.
