Another Trip to France

We just returned from another barging trip in France. This time we went to Bordeaux and Aquitaine.

We flew United from SFO to CDG non-stop then Air France to Bordeaux. Surprisingly, we had a very pleasant flight on United. Did they get customer service training with all their bad press recently?

My favorite snack was served first. If you haven't had a Stroopwafel, look for it. You can even find it at Trader Joe's. The cookie is soft and there is a thin caramel filling--just enough to make it taste good without making it over sweet.

Dinner was General Tso's Chicken. I must say this was very tasty.

We then got a lemon sorbet for dessert.

In the middle of the flight, we got a snack--sandwich and M&Ms.

One hour prior to arrival, we even got a hot breakfast of omelette, potatoes and sausage.

The best part was the flight attendants were actually friendly and came by often to ask if you needed water.

CDG (Charles de Gaulle) is a huge airport. This was one of the connection ports. Look at all the transportation tubes.

We arrived in Terminal 1. If you are going to Paris, the RER train into town leaves from Terminals 2 & 3. You'll need to take the CDGVAL train from Terminal 1. Next stop is a parking lot, then Terminal 3, another parking lot, then Terminal 2. It takes 10 minutes to travel from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2. There aren't many restaurants in Terminal 1. Better to get to Terminal 2 if you have a layover and need food.

Our domestic flight left out of Terminal 2. We cleared immigration quickly in Terminal 1 this time but have had to wait nearly an hour in the past. It took 10 minutes to ride the CDGVAL then 20 minutes to pass through security and walk to our gate. Better give yourself at least 1.5-2 hour connection to be safe.

Our 2nd leg was on Air France. Be aware that they are strict on their luggage allowance--12 kg for ALL your carry-ons. They will weigh your bags and make sure they fit inside the luggage guides. Jackets and umbrellas are not counted as part of the weight, so if you're close, pull them out and put them on.

BOD (Bordeaux) is a small airport and easy to navigate. We found the stand for the bus into town and purchased tickets at the machines--€1.60. It's a 50 minute ride to Gare St. Jean (train station in town). https://www.infotbm.com/en/planning-your-journey/bordeaux-merignac-airport.html

The other option is to take the Navette bus for €8. 30 minutes from BOD to Gare St. Jean. The only problem is that the schedule is limited.
