Fort La Latte

Fort La Latte is a leisurely hour's drive from St. Malo.

It's a medieval fortress built on the ocean's edge. Admission is €5.70. Additional €0.20 for the English information sheet.

There are guided tours--most are in French. There is one English tour Mon-Fri at 3pm.

You'll cross 2 drawbridges to access the fortress.

Most of the structures date from the 14th and 15th centuries. The small chapel dedicated to St. Michael dates from the 18th century.

Peer through the windows to see the Governor's Lodge. The lodge is occupied by the owners, whose family restored the fortress in the 1930s.

Be sure to climb to the top of the castle keep for panoramic views of the grounds.

Don't forget to peer into the ocean.
