Banffy Castle

Banffy Castle is known as Transylvania's Versaille and it's located 30 minutes from Cluj Napoca.

In the summer, Banffy Castle hosts the Electric Castle music festival, which attracts over 200,000 attendees over 5 days.

There's limited parking onsite and the entrance is unassuming. Admission is 10 lei ($2.34).

In the vestibule, there's an exhibit of original stone statues found during the restoration process.

Looking out of the entrance, you can see the town of Bontida.

The main building--the former residence of the Banffy family.

The interior of the main building

The bay window on a corner of the main building once had stained glass windows.

The Banffy "herd," comprising wooden rocking horses of varying sizes.

The Kitchen Building houses the Arts Cafe, restrooms and the leaning tower of Bontida.

The Leaning Tower of Bonchida is a former clock tower.

Former stables with a sculpture of Helios capping the entrance.

The sculpture of Helios is the last on-site survivor of the statue gallery inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses.

The former servants' rooms contain fresco, stucco and other works of Banffy students.

Beautiful tiles made by Banffy students.
