Touring Bucharest

After checking into K + K Elizabeta, we set out to see Bucharest.

Around the corner from our hotel, we found covrigs.

We got one with sesame seeds (covrig cu mac)--1.50 lei ($0.35).

We also got a palmier (tasted like a bear claw)--3 lei ($0.70).

We wandered into the Old Town and saw a KFC. Every once in a while, I get a craving for the 11 herbs & spices.

We decided to share a piece. One thigh--5.50 lei ($1.29). This was very moist and it tasted like KFC anywhere else.

The Palace of Parliament is the world's 2nd largest administrative building (after the Pentagon). The building has over 3000 rooms and is decorated with graffiti.

You can visit the building on a tour. Ignore the signs indicating that you need to reserve in advance and walk into the building from B-dul Natiunile Unite. Be sure to bring your passport.

Piata Unirii is just south of the historic center and stands in the middle of the communist era buildings that Ceausescu built. It's dominated by a huge fountain.

Water shows start at 9 pm Fri-Sun from May-October. It's an impressive show that lasts 45 minutes.

We stopped by the mall across the street from Piata Unirii and found a grocery store within it. I love finding things we don't have in the US. This was a Pepsi Ginger (it would've been really good if it wasn't diet) and Pineapple & Basil Schweppes (I thought the flavor was odd). The Pepsi was 3.29 lei ($0.77) and the Schweppes was 3.49 lei ($0.82).
