Cafe Citti, Kenwood

We were pretty full after our tastings but a few hours later we were hungry again. We had heard that Cafe Citti was a great place to get Italian food. We decided to give it a try. It's located at 9049 Sonoma Highway in Kenwood, California. It's a casual place. Order at the counter then find a table.

There's a case of cold gourmet salads

We tried the Marinated Button Mushrooms--$4.50 for 1/2 pint. This was garlicky and tasty.

One of the specials of the evening--Lasagne with Bolognese and Bechamel Sauce for $14.50. This was terrible! The pasta was overcooked and mushy, the Bolognese lacked flavor and salt and there was no hint of the Bechamel sauce.

Choose your noodles and your sauce for $12.50. I chose Penne pasta with Meat Sauce. The pasta was al dente but the meat sauce was flavorless. It was supposed to have been simmered for hours but there wasn't much body to it. I don't usually add additional salt to my food but this needed it. The few pieces of tomatoes were good though.

Gnocchi with combo Meat Sauce and Pesto--$13.50 plus an additional $2.00 for the extra sauce. The gnocchi was just okay--it had been cooked just a shade too long. The pesto was fresh and flavorful though.

Perhaps we came on a bad day and I may give it one more try but I was terribly disappointed today.
