Alize

I also found a Travelzoo deal for Alize in the Rio--$99 for 7-course tasting menu with a glass of champagne.

Alize is located on the 56th floor and the view is fantastic.

The view was even better after dark.

The pretzel roll was delicious.

Amuse bouche of Poached Pear Terrine with Spiced Apple Cider

Choices for the 1st course. There was also Scottish Smoked Salmon.

Chilled Snow Crab and Octopus Salad, Ceviche, Avocado, Blood Orange, Piquillo Pepper Coulis.

Roasted Carrot and Butternut Squash Soup

Choices for the 2nd course. You could also get Foie Gras Torchon or Market Salad.

Sauteed Foie Gras, Cranberry Scone, Honey Creme Fraiche, Port & Cranberry Reduction--delicious.

Choices for the 3rd course. Other option was Nori Dusted Tempeh Cake.

Maine Lobster Thermidor, Mushroom, Tarragon Cream, Brandy, Dijon, Hollandaise. Delicious.

Pan Seared Monkfish, Sepia Pasta, Sea Beans, Uni Beurre Blanc. Good but I liked the Lobster dish better.

The 4th course. Other options were Roasted Chicken Breast or Jewel Yam Gnocchi.

It's a French restaurant so presentation with a flair was de rigeur. Domed plates were brought to the table and simultaneously opened for everyone at the table.

Duck Breast, Endive & Duck Bacon Tart, Preserved Lemon, Pomegranate Duck Au Jus. Prepared perfectly--just the right amount of pink.

The fifth course. Other options were venison or vegetable galette.

Braised Short Rib, Cannellini Puree, Cipollini Onion, Cherry Tomato, Truffled Cabernet Demi. Delicious. So much flavor, fork tender but still kept its shape.

The 6th course was cheese.

This was brought to the table to share.

Palate cleanser:

Coconut Panna Cotta with Mango Sauce.

Dessert choices. You could also get a Chocolate Souffle.

Apple Pie--Caramelized apples baked in golden pastry, vanilla bean ice cream.

Grand Marnier Souffle, with Sabayon. Light and oh so good.
