Chiesa San Luigi dei Francesi

The Chiesa San Luigi dei Francesi is the national church of France in Rome.

Throughout the church, you'll find French motifs, including the salamander, the symbol of Francois I.

On the ceiling, you'll find King Louis IX ascending to heaven.

The highlight of the church is the chapel by Caravaggio.

Pop in a €2 coin to light up the chapel.

The center wall is "The Inspiration of Saint Matthew."

The left wall is "The Calling of Saint Matthew." This was Caravaggio's first large-scale work, done when he was only 29 years old. This shocked people for the holy scene in a down-to-earth location.

This statue with an angel piercing the throat of a man was morbid.

This was a freaky painting. The eyes opened and closed as you viewed it from different angles.
