Villa Borghese Gardens

The Villa Borghese Gardens is a nearly 200 acre garden designed in the English style in northeast Rome. It's the 3rd largest public park in Rome, after Villa Doria Pamphili and Villa Ada. There are numerous museums on site, along with a temple and a zoo.

The Borghese Gallery is definitely worth a visit. You will need to reserve in advance. Every 2 hours, 360 people are allowed to enter the museum and you can only stay a maximum of 2 hours. It's filled with amazing Bernini sculptures and paintings by Caravaggio, Raphael and Titian.

Behind the gallery is a beautiful and quiet garden.

Sculptures adorn the garden.

The Casino dell'Uccelliera and the Casino della Meridiana are just down the main path from the Gallery. The Casino dell'Uccelliera used to house rare birds. There is a sundial in front of the Casino della Meridiana, hence its name.

The Pincio at one edge of the park offers a view of the Piazza del Popolo. As you can see by the picture, it poured while we were there.
