Ryoanji Temple

Next up was the Ryoanji Temple to see the 15th century Zen rock garden. The garden consists of a rectangular plot of pebbles surrounded by earthen walls with 15 rocks laid out in small groups. From any vantage point, at lease one of the rocks is hidden from view. Try to prove them wrong.

The meaning of the gardens is unclear--some believe it is a tiger carrying cubs across a pond, others believe it is islands in a sea while still others believe it represents an abstract concept like infinity. Whatever the meaning, you can stare at it for hours and not really know why you're doing it.

Entry was Y 500.

On the grounds are beautiful gardens. This reminds me of the Monet painting--Water Lily Pond.
