Hotel de la Digue--Not Recommended

Back to our Normandy/Brittany/Loire vacation, which I was reporting prior to the firestorm that ravaged Santa Rosa in October 2018. We left off in Mont-St.-Michel.

We didn't book early enough to get a room on the island and ended up staying at the Hotel de la Digue in the hamlet of La Caserne. La Caserne is the closest town to the island. The road leading to the hotel has a gate to limit traffic and you need a code to open the gate. This was a big problem. Prior to our trip,  I tried numerous times e-mailing the Hotel de la Digue to get the code. They were not responsive. Later, we found out the code for the gate is reset every day so you have to call them the morning of your arrival to get the code. At least the hotel could have responded with this information. I was hoping there was a button to connect us with the hotel at the gate but no such thing. We had to make an international call on our cell phone when we reached the gate to get the code.

The hotel had limited front desk hours. When we arrived at 8pm, we had to go to the hotel across the street to get our room key.

We booked a room with Mont-St-Michel views. It wasn't worth it. You have to lean out the window and crane your neck to see the island.

I booked a non-refundable room 3 months before arrival. A month prior to our arrival in May, the price went down and the new lower rate included breakfast. I tried to get the hotel to at least give us breakfast, but they weren't accommodating. Lesson learned: unless you want to stay on the island, don't book too far in advance.

I do not recommend the Hotel de la Digue. It was a big disappointment all around.
