Coconut Tree

In Oxford, we had dinner at Coconut Tree, a Sri Lankan restaurant.

It's located at 76 St. Clement's Street.

Their Passion Fruit Mojito is delicious--£7. The passion fruit is freshly squeezed and so flavorful.

Dhal--£3.50. Red lentils cooked in coconut cream. I'm not a dhal fan and this didn't sway me to become one.

I didn't get a picture of the Lady Fingers--£3.50. They were okra slices, battered and deep fried. Loved these.

Hot Battered Spicy Mushrooms--£5. Polenta battered button mushrooms with caramelized onions. These were delicious. I liked these better than the Lady Fingers because these were less greasy.

Chickpeas--£4.50. Chickpeas stir-fried in coconut oil, onions, garlic, mustard seeds and crushed chiles.

V3 Clay Pot Fish--£5.50. Slow cooked tuna in goraka spices, creating its hot, sour and peppery taste. They only have 8 portions a day. Good thing there weren't too many portions available each day because I did not like this dish. The fish was too dry.

Chicken Curry on the Bone--£5.50. This was very good and I would order again.

Egg Hopper--£3.50. Hoppers are bowl shaped coconut milk pancake served with coconut sambal, seeni sambal (caramelized onions with a hint of cinnamon) and Lunu Miris (Sri Lankan salsa). This wasn't that exciting and I would skip this next time.

Porota Roti--£2.50. Flat bread to soak up the curry. This didn't have layers but it was pretty good.
