AI Noodle, Cupertino

Years ago, I used to go to A&J for a quick noodle soup. A&J was replaced by Ai Noodle and the menu looked the same. Unfortunately, the food is not the same.

Ai Noodle is located at 10893 N. Wolfe Rd., Suite C160. It's open from 11:30 am to 9 pm Mon-Fri, 9 am to 9 pm Sat-Sun.

Thousand Layers Pancake--$3.25. This was very flaky but it really needed a dipping sauce.

Cabbage & Pork Dumplings--12 for $6.50. Dip them in a soy sauce and vinegar mixture. I add just enough soy sauce until the vinegar turns dark. These dumplings were flavorful and juicy. The skin had a nice texture. This was the best dish of our meal.

Spicy Pig's Ear--$3.95. I couldn't figure out how they shaved these so thin. They had a nice spicy flavor and we were enjoying them until our tongues went numb. We weren't sure what it was in the dish that caused this. It was definitely a little freaky. The numbness only lasted 10 minutes.

Hot & Spicy Beef Tendon Noodle Soup--$7.75. We ordered the wide noodles, which were homemade and had a nice bite to them. The tendon was soft and the baby bok choy was refreshing. Then, there was the broth. The broth was flavorless and absolutely disappointing. It was like drinking brown water. I added soy sauce and vinegar left over from the dumplings and it was an improvement.

Shredded Pork with Salted Green Mustard Noodle Soup--$7.25. This was better than the tendon noodle soup.

What a disappointment. No wonder it only got 3 stars on Yelp.
