Scandic Oslo City

Our hotel in Oslo was the Scandic Oslo City. This was an incredibly convenient hotel, just across the street from the main train station and near Karl Johans Gate, the main pedestrian street. Leave the station via the west exit and look for the yellow building with "Scandic" on the side.

Unfortunately, there was a countrywide hotel strike in Norway. It started in late April. We thought the strike would be over by the time we arrived in mid May but it was still going on. In fact, it didn't end until May 22. Fortunately, the hotel was still open. There was no maid service but there were towels and toiletries in the lobby for you to replenish your room.

Breakfast was included and it was quite a spread. There was scrambled egg, bacon, sausages, baked pate, smoked salmon, poached salmon

and fruit. There were breads and delicious croissants and a variety of cheeses. Brown cheese is very popular in Norway. It's made from goat's milk and is slightly sweet. I was surprised that I liked it.
