Viking Ship Museum

A 6-minute walk from the Folk Museum is the Viking Ship Museum.

Admission is NOK80 or free with the Oslo Pass.

The Viking Ship Museum displays the world's best preserved Viking ships from the 9th century. The Oseberg ship is more ornate but not as seaworthy. It was used as a burial chamber for 2 prominent women and the ship was discovered by a farmer in 1903.

The Gokstad ship is more seaworthy. It was found by 2 teenage boys on their family property in 1879. This was the burial chamber for a prominent man in 900 AD.

The Tune ship was found in 1867, making it the first Viking ship found. Unfortunately, it was not intact. It was built in 900 AD and was the burial chamber for a man of unknown identity.

Carved animal head found with the ships.
