Vigeland Park

Vigeland Park is an outdoor sculpture park with over 200 sculptures of Gustav Vigeland. It's a 40-minute walk from the city center or 10-15 minutes by Bus 20 or Tram 12. Get off at Vigelandsparken. Alternatively, take any bus, tram or metro to Majorstuen station and walk 8 minutes.

The sculptures are laid out along an 850 meter pathway and you can walk the park in 30 minutes but plan on 1-1.5 hours for a leisurely stroll. There are 5 sections to the park and they're lined up in a row. The park is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Just inside the Main Gate (section 1) on the right is a statue of Gustav Vigeland.

At the entrance to the Bridge (section 2), there are 4 columns with humans fighting lizards.

Along the bridge, there are 58 sculptures showing the relationship between men, women and children. Some are playful.

Others are not so playful.

The most famous statue in the park is the "Angry Boy." This is one of the smallest statues and can be found on the left side of the bridge near the widening.

The Fountain is section 3.

The fountain is surrounded by tree groups that depict the life of man, from childhood to grave.

Section 4 is the Monolith.

The monolith was carved from 1 single granite block and has 121 intertwined human figures, all drawn towards heaven. Some are characterized by sadness and despair while others by delight and hope.

Surrounding the monolith are 36 figure groups.

The last section is the Wheel of Life, a symbol of eternity.

Nearby is the Vigeland Museum. Opening hours and entrance fees can be found here:
