The Scream, almost

Our flight from Oakland arrived in Oslo at 2:30 pm. I was surprised that it took us only 2 hours to get off the plane, clear customs, take the train into town and check into our hotel. I had wanted to see Edvard Munch's "The Scream" at the National Gallery but didn't think I would have an opportunity on this trip. The museum was only open until 5 pm on Sundays and it was closed on Mondays. Tuesday was Constitution Day in Norway and the museum was closed.

It was supposed to be an 11 minute walk to the museum so I thought if we hurried, we could make it. Unfortunately, we got turned around getting to the museum and by the time we arrived, it was 5 minutes to closing. I talked my way into the museum and was escorted to the 2nd floor but was turned back just 1 room away from the painting. I was so close but didn't get to see it.

"The Scream" at the National Gallery is only 1 of 4 versions. There are 2 pastels (1893 & 1895) and 2 paintings (1893 and 1910). The one at the National Gallery is a painting from 1893. The other painting is at the Munch Museum. Both paintings were stolen at one point but eventually returned.
