Alesund

Alesund is a town of 40,000 and our first long stop. We arrived at noon and the ship was in port for 3 hours. Lunch was served onboard from 11:30-2:30 so we were able to eat before disembarking.

Excursions offered for this stop were a visit to the aquarium and to Askla Mountain for NOK470 or an Art Nouveau walk for NOK 330. We chose to see the town on our own. You can pick up a map of the town at the Reception desk before disembarking.

Alesund is a small town and easily walkable.

It's a quaint town with many cobblestone streets.

The inner harbor.

We found a glass shop.

The yellow building was impressive and looked like a government building. Turned out to be the local school.

Alesund Kirke (church)

Typical art nouveau building in town.

It was a quiet town and there were hardly any tourists.

Troll outside a gift shop.

Hiking up Askla Mountain. There are 418 steps to the top.

The view from the top of the mountain is spectacular.

We could even see our ship.

More art nouveau buildings.
