Changi Airport

Changi, Singapore's international airport, consistently earns top marks for best airport in the world. It deserves the accolades but I did have 2 complaints: signage on the drive into the airport and getting on WiFi.

The airport is light and airy and it's divided into 4 terminals. Be sure you know from which terminal your flight departs before getting to the airport. I did not see any signs indicating which airlines leave from which terminal. Our Grab driver didn't know either.

Landing and clearing customs was easy. It took all of 5 minutes to go through customs.

When you fly from the airport, you don't clear security until you get to your gate so the line is not long. Just the number of passengers on your flight.

We flew out of Terminal 3 and there was a Butterfly Garden in our Terminal.

Terminal 3 also had numerous sculptures, the largest slide in an airport and a movie theater. There is also a movie theater in Terminal 2 and the movies are free at both terminals.

WiFi is free but it's tricky to log on. It took us a while to figure out we needed to find a kiosk and scan our passport. You'll get a code for the free WiFi.

If you have more than a 5 1/2 hour layover, you can even take a free tour of Singapore.

Terminal 3 has a Singapore Food Street. The food isn't as cheap as at the hawker stands in town but it allows you to have one last taste before leaving.

Decide what you want then pay at the cashier. You'll get a receipt to take back to the stall where you can place your order.

Fatimeh Nasi Lemak served satays. Be prepared to wait at least 20 minutes for your order.

Sampling of satays--I liked the mutton S$6.30 ($4.65) for 6, my sister liked the chicken S$5.70 ($4.20) for 6.

Roti Prata--S$6 ($4.40). This was just okay.

To get from Changi to the city, you have options:
1. Bus--takes about an hour and costs roughly S$2 ($1.50)
2. MRT—have to change lines at Tanah Merah Station; also takes about an hour and costs roughly S$2.
3. Taxi—takes about 30 minutes and costs S$30 ($22)
4. GrabCar—takes about 30 minutes and costs roughly S$20 ($15). The fare is calculated at S$2.50+0.50/km (23km)+0.15/min + toll. Download the App and you can either put a credit on your account or pay the driver with cash.
