City Square Mall--Sweet Potatoes & DTF

Just as we were getting hungry, we came upon City Square Mall and popped in to see what we could find. In a mall, always head to the lower level where you'll likely find many food options.

At Don Don Donki, we saw a sign limiting the number of sweet potatoes you could buy to 2. We wondered why there was a limit when no one was in line. We missed the part about when the next batch of potatoes were available. As the time got close, the line grew exponentially.

Sweet Potato from Hokkaido--S$2.80 ($2.05). This was the most amazing potato. It was so sweet and delicious. Now, we could see why there was a limit.

Nearby, we found a Din Tai Fung and at 2:30 pm, there was no line.

Pork Xiao Long Bao or Soup Dumpling--S$10.30 ($7.60).  This is what makes DTF famous. The skin is thin and the dumpling has 18 perfect pleats. The pork is delicious and juicy.

Mix 1 part soy sauce with 3 parts vinegar in the bowl with the thinly sliced ginger. Pick up a dumpling with chopsticks and dip it in the soy/vinegar/ginger mixture and then place it in your spoon. Bite or poke a hole near the top. Let the juice cool then pop the whole thing in your mouth.

Singapore had a unique item not found at other DTF. It was Steamed Chili Crab & Pork Bun--3 for S$6 ($4.40). This didn't have much of a chili crab flavor and was nothing special. I wouldn't order it again.

Stir Fried Vegetable with Garlic--S$12.80 ($9.50). You always have to eat your vegetables.

Steamed Red Bean Dumpling with Chocolate Lava--6 for S$8.80 ($6.50). There are some DTF that have pure chocolate lava and the chocolate oozes. This one didn't quite do that.
