The Waterfront & Merlion Park

The Singapore River waterfront has really been developed since I was last there.

Looking downstream towards The Fullerton Hotel. Built in 1928, it has served as Singapore's General Post Office, the Exchange Room and Exchange Reference Library and the Singapore Club. Today, it s a 400-room hotel.

Cavenagh Bridge is one of the oldest and the only suspension bridge in Singapore.

Skyscrapers dominate the view upstream.

"The First Generation"--a bronze sculpture by Singaporean Chong Fah Cheong depicts boys at play on the waterfront.

Follow the waterfront, cross Esplanade Drive to reach Merlion Park.

Merlion Park. The 1/2 fish, 1/2 lion is the symbol of Singapore.  The fish body represents Singapore's beginning as a fishing village and the lion represents Singapore's original name Singapura, meaning Lion City.

Across the bay, you'll find the Marina Bay Sands Hotel (also known as MBS).

The view is especially beautiful at night.

At 8:00 & 9:00, there is a laser light show visible from Merlion Park. The better view though is from the waterfront at MBS, where you'll be able to see the water show as well.

It's a beautiful stroll along the waterfront at night.
