Flamsbana

Flamsbana, the train journey from Flam to Myrdal, is voted one of the world's most beautiful train journeys. Almost 80% of the rail has a gradient of 5.5%, making it a very steep trip.

You're supposed to sit on the right if going from Flam to Myrdal and on the left if going the opposite direction. We took the last train at 6:40 pm and there were few people on the train so we had a whole car to ourselves. The ride takes about an hour to cover 20 km, passing 20 tunnels and costs NOK340.

The village of Lunden, where the Haga Mountain drops down to the valley.

Rjoande Waterfall, with a vertical drop of 140 meters, near Hareina

Views along the journey.

Kjosfossen (Kjos Waterfall)--the train stops here and everyone gets out to take pictures. Oftentimes, a maiden dances at the top of the waterfall but on the last journey of the day with few passengers, the maiden did not appear.

Reinunga Lake, which feeds Kjosfossen.

The journey ends in Myrdal. We were supposed to catch the 8:26 train from Myrdal to Bergen but it was delayed by over an hour. The trip from Myrdal to Bergen takes 2 hours and cost NOK300.

I was surprised how much snow there was on the journey from Myrdal to Bergen.
