The Halal Guys

One of the best things I ate in New York City was a chicken & lamb gyro platter from The Halal Guys. They're located at 6th Avenue and West 53rd Street. I was thrilled to find that there was now a franchise in San Jose. It's located at 81 Curtner Avenue, near the Boiling Crab.

The Halal Guys has a few indoor tables and a handful of outdoor tables. Most people take their food to-go.

Baba Ghanouj--$4.99. This was served with 1 pita. It was delicious and smoky but a tad on the salty side.

I got the combo platter--chicken and beef gyro but it looked a lot like the lamb gyro I got in New York. This was not as greasy as the one in New York and tasted pretty good. The platter comes with iceberg lettuce, a scoop of chopped tomatoes, rice, chicken/beef and 4 slices of pita. The regular is $9.99 while the small is $8.99. The regular was definitely the better bargain because the small was significantly smaller.

The lamb gyro in New York. This platter was only $6 but it was off a stand. I guess brick & mortar and being in silicon valley make it 60% more.
