Vik

Vik is a small town with less than 3000 people. The main street leads from the ferry dock up to the Hopperstad Stave Church.

You'll pass a Gamalost Cheese factory on your left. Gamalost or "old cheese" production is very labor intensive and is therefore not made in sufficient quantities to export. Good thing--it's an acquired taste and I'm not sure there would be much of a market outside of Norway.

Vik Church

We came upon this adorable pony in town.

Hove Stone Church, dating from the 12th century.

There was a school production on the grounds of the church and the pony we ran into earlier was part of the show.

Hopperstad Stave Church, built in the year 1130 is one of the oldest stave churches still in existence. It's in a beautiful meadow.

The church is open mid-May to mid-September from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is NOK70.

You can see the dragon motif on the roofline.
