The plaza was beautifully lit at night and full of people. There were places to sit and soak in the atmosphere. This is the city's municipal building, which is at the far end of the plaza.
From the plaza, it was a 5-minute walk to the Canal Grande, the only canal in Trieste. It was lined with restaurants and churches.
