Bled Island

Back in Lake Bled, we rented a rowboat to get to Bled Island.

A 2-person boat costs €10/hour. It takes about 10 minutes to row out to the island. An hour is plenty of time to get to the island and tour the church.

Alternatively, you can take a Pletna boat to the island.

Dock the boat to the left of the stairs.

On summer Saturdays, grooms carry their brides up the 99 steps to the church to show that they are "fit for marriage," according to Rick Steves.

The island is known for potica--a filled yeast cake. This one was filled with walnuts--€3.60.

Admission to the church is €6.

Make a wish and pull the cord in the middle of the church. Pull as hard as you can to ring the bell. If the bell rings 3 times or more, your wish comes true.

Admission to the bell tower is included in the ticket to the church.

There is a pendulum clock inside.

From the top of the tower, you can get a nice view of the island and the lake.
