Lake Bled

You can walk around Lake Bled along the Veslaska Promenada, a flat paved path. The walk around the lake is 6 km long and takes 1 1/2-2 hours.

We started at the Hotel Jelovica and walked clockwise.

Just a few steps from our starting point, we reached the town of Bled. There are large hotels, restaurants and stores, including a grocery store. Lake Bled is known for cream cake, a layer of cream and a thick layer of vanilla custard sandwiched between pastry sheets. Hotel Park is thought to have come up with the original cream cake.

You'll pass numerous private homes along the lake.

Pletna boats are a symbol of Lake Bled. Oarsmen row the flat-bottomed boats, taking tourists to the island.

Bled Island in the middle of the lake (more about this island in a later blog post).

There is a rowing clubhouse on the lake. Several rowing olympians trained here.

You can swim or rent paddle boards at one end of the lake.
