Hotel Jelovica, Lake Bled

Our next stop was Lake Bled, 50 km and 40-50 minutes from Ljubljana. Hotel Jelovica was our home base for the next 2 nights.

The hotel is located a 2-minute walk from the lake. There is a free parking lot. If you are coming by bus, the bus stop is only 50 m away.

It's a large conference hotel. There's a pool and spa area but we didn't take advantage of it. The pool and fitness room are free for hotel guests but there is a fee to use the sauna.

WiFi is free.

The rooms are small but adequate. Each room has a balcony. The lake view rooms do not have great views of the lake.

The bathroom was modern and clean.

I love showers where you don't have to hold the shower head. It's a minor thing but it makes such a big difference for me.

They have a buffet dinner for €13, including unlimited beer & wine. The white wine was drinkable but the red was terrible.

There are usually 2 cold starters. On our night, the starters were tuna salad and stomach sausage. The sausage was good salami. There was also a green salad.

Beef soup. More like beef consommé--it had more flavor than the beef soup at Vila Podvin.

Buckwheat soup--cream soup that was pretty good. Almost tasted like mushroom soup.

Spaghetti bolognese, chicken fillet with sesame seeds, Duchennes potato, stewed cabbage

Rumpsteak with porcini, grilled trout

Fruit, chocolate crepes, cake, chocolate mousse. Overall, dinner was quite good, even for a buffet. At€13, it was a bargain.

Breakfast is included in the room rate. There was fruit, cheese & cold cuts, breads and hot items.
