Slap Mostnice

From Ukanc, we drove around Lake Bohinj to reach the start of the hike for Slap Mostnice.

Near Ukanc on the shore of Lake Bohinj is a statue of Zlatorog. Zlatorog is a golden-horned chamois or ibex of Slovenian legend depending on which statue you see and which legend you read.

Church of St. John the Baptist on the eastern edge of Lake Bohinj.

Signs point the way to Slap Mostnice. When I asked my husband why he chose this hike, his response was we had to see a waterfall that was named "most nice."

The hike starts at the Devil's Bridge--a large stone bridge. There is a carpark near the start of the hike. It costs €5 to park. Entrance to the park costs €2.50/person. The hike is 11 km long and takes 3 1/2-4 hours. Elevation gain is 300 m.

The hike takes you through a beautiful gorge with a crystal-clear river.

Small cascading waterfalls along the hike.

Rock formation in the shape of an elephant.

Koca na Vojah--a mountain hut along the hike. You can stop here for lunch or even spend the night.

Slap Mostnice.

If you're short on time, the best part of the hike is the gorge. The waterfall was not as spectacular as Savica and it was a tough climb up to it.
